Ashley Audrain's novel, "The Push", is a a chilling drama that immerses you in the story of a new mother, Blythe who is forced to endure her silent struggle with motherhood. Blythe was determined to embody the loving mother that she never had as an adolescence towards her child, Violet. The innocent idea that love is straight forward and simple, deceived her into believing that her journey as a mother would be an easy journey. Once Violet is born, Blythe notices that she is not an ordinary kid. Numerous incidents lead her to believe that there is a psychological disconnect affecting Violet's behavior. Despite of Blythe's various attempts to convince her family of this notion, they conclude that she is being irrational, and needs more time to form a relation with Violet. After a particular devastating event, Blythe must find a way to navigate through her feelings of guilt, betrayal, and heartache. As you read this page-turning novel, you will wonder when this mother will reach her breaking point, and what defines rock bottom.
Until next time...happy reading!
